Special Situations
Anchorage targets Special Situations involving well established businesses that are underperforming and have significant profit improvement potential.  Anchorage’s investment strategy is underpinned by the principle that superior returns are achieved through maximizing the profit potential of underperforming or stressed businesses.   The types of opportunities that fall within Special Situations include:
Operational Turnaround
Anchorage targets quality businesses experiencing operating problems.  We invest capital, and leverage our significant operational expertise, to execute a turnaround plan to drive improved performance by doing the basics well.  We seek situations where there is a balance of turnaround opportunities or ‘levers’, including revenue improvement, leveraging an under-utilized brand, supply chain optimization, efficiency gains and capital investment.
Fallen Angels
Fallen Angels involve businesses that were previously performing strongly but are currently underperforming.  Anchorage principals have invested in Fallen Angels including Golden Circle, Sunbeam Victa and Wormald.
Orphans
Orphans are non strategic businesses of larger corporations, often foreign conglomerates.  These businesses have not reached their full potential due to under investment, lack of focus and insufficient resources.  They benefit from increased attention brought by ‘local’ ownership.  Anchorage principals have previously invested in Orphan style situations including Omni Industries and PayConnect.
Transitionary Ownership
Transitionary Ownership includes businesses that are experiencing problems progressing through a particular ‘life’ cycle stage. Anchorage invests resources and capital to enable acceleration toward full potential.
Forced Disposal
Forced Disposals involve opportunities where an ailing parent may require liquidity or there is a forced sale required by Regulatory Authorities.  Anchorage principals have previously invested in Forced Disposals including Atlas Group and Smart Salary.
Restructuring
Restructuring  includes businesses with good quality operating assets that are unable to reach their profit potential due to over leverage, resulting in an inability to fully utilize the underlying ‘infrastructure’ of the business.  Anchorage provides capital to facilitate the optimization of the capital structure and applies its operational experience to enhance the operating performance and maximize the returns from the base business.
